The Dark Ages

Well here I go again. Supposed to be studying but finding myself blogging. So this week is statistically the most stressful week of the semester for students said a journalist from BYU who heard it from a friend who heard it from her RA (seriously). I guess I proved that statistic true. I had three tests and two quizzes this week. All done except the most important test to go and lets hope it doesn't go as hunky dory as it did for me in my other two tests. How am I feeling right now? I feel like my cheeks are drooping so low that they're sitting on my shoulders. Lucky thing too cuz if they weren't, my head would have no support and fall right off(and I kinda need it, at least till after this last darn test). But hey I'm good. I'm cool. I at least know who Pachomius is and how Benedictine Monasticism contributed to the preservation of Christianity in general, and why Islam prospered while at the same time the west fell into a dark age. (As my tongue is sticking out at you, I slowly forget what I was doing and start to drift off. But wait I must keep studying. So i hunker down and continue) I'm back. I need some sleep. Study time.

This One's for Ashley my sister-See Leafontheriver.blogspot.com)

So I had a sweet experience the night before elections. I had a dream that Obama came to town (in a town that is not Orem but it was some random place that was home). My friend Jon Drake and I went out to hear him speak in the streets. All the neighbors went out to shake his hand. I didn't get a chance to though. Obama started to leave and Jon ran over across the street to him and told him I wanted to meet him. So, like I was the most important person in the world, he came over to me and shook my hand.
I woke up that morning with such a very good feeling towards Obama. I knew then that I would be ok with either McCain or Obama. Susie and I went to see Kung Fu Panda at the dollar theater and right as we were driving home the news on the radio reported that Obama had won the election. We went home and and watched McCain's caring speach and then Obama's victory speech. That's when I first noticed how important Obama's family is to him. The last few days Iv'e seen pictures and read stories of how he is very involved in his family. I'll be honest, I didnt vote for Obama. He has some policies I don't care for and some I like (simplify FAFSA, $4000 for college etc.). BUT, now that he's elected I am willing to give him my support as president. Ive heard all the aweful things said of President Bush and I don't think they have done any good for the countries unity. I know Obama's not gona be perfect at his job but he has my support.

So As I'm writing this I should be studying for 2 major tests I have. I got distracted. So I'll tell a wee little story. As you may or may not know, I am an volunteer EMT on BYU's EMS team. I seem to be good luck for students cuz I almost never get calls while I'm on. Everyone else I know gets one every shift. Well, in the last week Iv'e had 2 calls while on shift for a concussion and one while not on shift.(I double the number of calls Iv'e had in just one week haha) Anyways, while I was leaving my swimming class I heard someone say they need to call BYU's ems team. There was a guy laying on the concrete that had passed out. He was ok but I was like HEY Im an emt, I can help. So I went over while EMS was dispatched until they arrived. Again, it was nothing serious but it felt good to be able to know what to do in case of an emergency. I recommend EVERYONE get certified as an EMT. It's the best feeling to know that I can walk around campus (or anywhere for that matter) and be confident that if there is an emergency, I can stay calm because Iv'e been trained well.

WELL, Study time.

Halloween and stuff

Tuesday before Halloween was our wards' trunk or treat, and Reid decided we should go. I had decided a long while ago that I wanted to be a cowgirl (thanks to riding the horses every week). Thanks so much to Chelsea and Doyle for borrowing their boots and hats to us for our costumes. You guys rock. We took pictures after we got home, but here they are.
Sorry for the red-eye, it's kinda bad. I think Reid looks really hot as a cowboy, but he said we looked like farmers.. whatever.

One of my greatest achievements this weekend was the kitchen. Finally it is done!! Well at least yesterday it was. Our dishwasher (aka, me) is broken, and I finally got it fixed yesterday. We even cleaned the floor and counters. I can't guarantee it will stay that way till Thanksgiving though

I can't believe I made this thing look pretty! THANKS to Chelsea and Ashley for helping me do it! (I used the cutest blogs on the block thing you have on yours Ashley)
Reid's got a long day tomorrow, well at least early so it's time for bed!

Our Tuesday Ritual

For the past two months now Reid and I have been going to Dr. Davis' to ride the horses. It's been a ton of fun especially since it is something we've decided we want to do when we are older and have a family. Well, this past Tuesday it was really windy, I mean really windy. We got the saddles ready to go, and Dr. Davis comes out and asks us if we still want to ride. We kinda hesitated (based on the fact that some horses can get spooked easily with the wind howling in their ears), and then decided not to ride after all. We did want to stay and brush the horses and just spend time getting more comfortable with them. Dr. Davis asked if we wanted to work them in the corral. Basically we stood in the middle and cracked a whip to get them to run at different speeds. We started with Banjo (the horse I ride), and he was doing really well, especially when Dr. Davis had the whip. It was mine turn to try it, and when he realized that it was me doing it, he just walked right up to me and faced me. We did a dance as I tried to get around to his butt, but he didn't want to work for me. Flicka, the horse Reid rides, worked very well for her first time. We also did a little bare-back riding, but by then Banjo didn't really want to do anything anymore.Reid is a real horseman in that jacket, all he needs now are the boots and a hat!

A Whole Year!

This is pretty much just craziness! We have been married for a whole year (tomorrow)!! Time has gone by so fast and yet I almost wish it would go faster so that Reid finishes school and we actually have time together. We have lots of time together, I just want more. We don't have anything fancy planned just a nice dinner together since we both have to work all day.

Since we started blogging, we obviously have missed a ton of stuff that has happened (I mean a ton). We'll try to share some of it, but not all to overwhelm you.
Let's see. Recently we had a little kitten at our house for a couple days (courtesy of Reid's work). Dozer is her name and boy was she crazy!! She loved to play and never seemed to get enough. Every once in a while she'd sleep and was just so cute. Dozer was found in a construction yard pawing at her dead mother. She was brought into Reid's work and unfortunately she had a really bad skin disease. After a month of apparently unsuccessful treatment they almost euthanized her because she wasn't getting any better. One of the girls there started crying as they were about to let her go and asked if there was anything else they could do for this kitten. So they decided not to put her down and it was a good thing too because she started to heal and has completely recovered. Now all she needs is a good home.

Back in August we went to Texas as a whole Johnson family, went to the temple, took family pictures (which I can't figure out how to upload them anywhere) and hung out. Way fun time! We miss being with our family, but are not missing the humidity. (It was very humid when we got there)
And last for today at least. We can't forget about our baby. It'll be a year since we've had her as a couple and she's almost three now. Our sweetheart Beatrice. If you ever come over, you'll never see her, so here's your chance. I promise she is sweet; she's just afraid of new people. We've been living in my sister's basement since May and even though Bea hears Jon, Ashley and Olivia all the time, she runs under my bed when they come down. All but today that is. I brought Olivia down and Bea stayed out and jumped on the bed. So I brought Olivia to see Bea and she was so excited. She went to touch the kitty and pulled out some hair! Bea was a good sport and stayed on the bed (cuz I wouldn't let her leave). Bea is finally starting to get used to having people over! Thank goodness. So here are some pictures of Beatrice and Olivia, just not together. Oh and Bea loves to be brushed, and likes to try to eat her brush)

We promise to try to keep things updated, we are lame and know it.

All Dogs Go to Heaven and Some Cats Go Elsewhere

Yesterday a family brought in a rickety old lumpy dog. The girl at the front desk brought the dog back and put it in one of the kennels in the treatment area. I could tell the dog was old and by everyones reactions I knew the dog was going to be euthanized. They said the family had a little party with family and friends the night before to say goodbye to the old dog. I was mopping when they put him on the treatment table. I went in to watch and observe(and probably annoy the Dr. and tech's with the zillion questions I had). We petted him as the Dr. shaved part of his leg where the injection would be made. She made the injection and within seconds, he slipped off into eternity. I was amazed at how fast it worked. It was such a humane way to go. The Dr. showed me the lumps in the stomach. They were several tumors. I was surprised at how emotional it was. I had to leave the room and keep mopping so I didn't cry(especially in front of all the woman staff I work with. Come on guys I'm a man!!) I thought of our old dog Pepper who also had such a worn out body and was euthanized a while back. It must have been hard.
On a lighter note, some people brought in a stray cat they found. If there were a word for female cat to replace the inappropriate word for female dog-THATS what i would have called it. I had to hold the feet and the tech held the mane and front legs while the Dr. inspected the cat. We didn't do much holding though. It was more like complete restraint. The cat was NOT happy and throwing her paws around, not as concerned for our well being as we were(or at least the Dr was) for her's. I got three good puncture marks in the hand, while later on miss kitty grabbed ahold of the techs arm with its claws. Anyways, they found three gashes in the cats back, prolly from another cat. Puss and blood came out and they sewed it up.
