More Garden

I haven't been to the garden in weeks and so finally last night I went. Reid has taken care of it and I would stay home with the little ones and I would always hear about the tomatoes or the watermelon or whatever and I was kinda getting jealous that he got to see it. I had to go, plus Reid needed to study, so it worked out. My friend Kelsi told me to take pictures the next time I went and as I was on my way, I realized I forgot the camera. So the following pictures were taken on my phone. I hope they are alright. The pictures are also out of order, so sorry.
Here are two of our cantaloupe. I have no idea how to tell when they are done. I can barely tell when the cantaloupe at the store is ready. :)
Our "prize" watermelon! It kinda looks like a squash in its shape. Hopefully it wont taste like one! Here you can see watermelon #1 and #2
The tomatoes are really starting to pop out! Last time I saw them, there were only 3 tomatoes and now there are 8-10.
Just saw this little guy. Watermelon #3
 And watermelon #4
The whole garden is just about over-run with watermelon plants! Almost the whole right side is watermelon
Basil is starting to grow more!
Our third cantaloupe. This one should be ready soonish, hopefully it will taste yummy.

This really has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience. It would be so nice to have our own garden at our own place whenever that happens, but it has been nice to be able to have a little plot to learn with. Maybe next year we will have more success.

Growing Things

It is really great to see the progress that our garden has been making. It was just a few weeks ago that I posted about our garden. I meant to post last week when I took the pictures, but it is amazing the difference a week brings. So here are some pictures of our garden now...

 Abigail and the whole garden
 My little watermelons :)
 Even smaller cantalope
The yellowish plants are eggplants someone gave us (not doing so well if you didn't notice) and then above that is our cucumbers on the left and the 3 big ones are the summer squash. We actually have two little squash growing right now!! Oh and since that picture, we planted a pepper plant right by them.
At the top are the beans which are now starting to flower and below them are the peas.
 Our sad little tomato plants
And finally the strawberries. They are just kinda sitting there doing nothing.

And because the garden is not the only thing growing... Some long awaited pictures of the growing belly :)
This is a repeat of 22 weeks
30 weeks
33 weeks
37 weeks

Only 3 more weeks till the little guys due date!!

We are farmers...

I owe this all to Reid. After Christmas he took a lot of time reading and learning up on gardening and decided that this summer in between school we would have a garden. Unfortunately, at our apartment complex there isn't any land for the tenants to take care of, but Reid found a community garden that is only like 5 minutes away from us. It took a while to find out if we got a plot, but finally at end of April we were assigned a plot! (The community garden is a first come first serve, so all the people who had plots last year could keep them, or if they didn't, new people got a chance at it.) So we got our seeds and tilled the ground. That was not fun, we had to do it by hand with just a shovel and being 30 weeks pregnant makes it really hard. Reid tilled it a second time and a nice lady that has a plot at the garden let Reid borrow her hand tiller. That went a lot quicker and that lady also gave us like 6 strawberry plants from her garden. (Everyone we have met at the garden is super nice!) Along with strawberries, we planted beans, peas, watermelon, cantaloupe, 2 different types of cucumbers and squash. We also started carrots and cherry tomatoes inside our house, the tomatoes are still growing, but after we transplanted the carrots outside, they died :(
Tomorrow we are going to one of the local farmers market and getting a tomato plant (something other than cherry) and on Friday we are doing some major weeding and mulching of the garden. It has been really fun being able to spend time together as a family to be outside and (try) grow our own food -even though it will be a while before we actually get to eat it :) I love Reid's enthusiasm and determination. Without it, we wouldn't be doing this. Thanks hun!
The little sprouts are the cherry tomatoes. The toilet paper rolls held the carrots that died

Towards the top is the beans and the ones towards the bottom are some of the peas
Cucumbers are on the left (very small) and squash is on the right
