Yum Yum!

On the 21st we started giving Abigail cereal, and she has really taken it well. She doesn't get very dirty unless she tries to feed herself, but that's more of her playing with the spoon instead of eating. We have yet to pull out the high chair so she still eats in the swing. I wish baby furniture didn't take up so much room! Haha, oh well. We all start small right? Anyway, these pictures are from her first feeding!
Hi dad, I'm eating!

Give me more!

Time Flies

Wow, so blogging obviously isn't my top priority right now if you can't tell. It feels like things are so crazy with this semester of school for Reid and me working and Abigail just growin' up! This year is it for Reid (at least at BYU) for school, and then we'll get a nice break. But we can't just look ahead till December when finals are over, we are taking it smaller. 5 more weeks of this semester, 7 weeks till the MCAT (oh we can't wait for May 1st to be done!), 10 weeks till Reid can start applying to Med schools, and then 21 weeks till there is a little break before his LAST semester starts. And if you want to keep going 39 weeks till he is done!! In there of course is Abigail's first birthday, the birth of Abigail's newest cousin Joshua, our 3 year anniversary and everyone's birthday in between!
But time does not stand still! Abigail is 6 months old already! She is really moving all over the place (no not crawling yet), she rolls from one end of the room to the other, and she's mastering the art of turning. She's also gained a new nickname from her cousin Olivia (who happened to learn it from her parents Ash and Jon). "Fatty Abby" (she weighed 20lbs at 5 1/2 months) poor little girl is going to be so self conscious growing up. (If she has a eating disorder, I'm blaming you Ash). I know she'll lose a lot once she really starts moving.
I am just so excited that spring is finally here. We have gotten to take a couple of walks around the park. I hope that we can get Abigail in some swimming classes this summer, just to get her used to the idea of that much water.

Anyway, here is what you all want so ENJOY!
She has always got her tongue out... I think Reid is teaching her bad habits :)

Motherhood

So this morning, Abigail work up at ten to 9 crying and tooting. I take her to get changed and she started coughing and threw up! She's never thrown up before only spit up. I didn't know what to do! I've dealt with my niece Olivia throwing up, but it was different cause I'll I had to do was wait for her mom. I am the mom. I take her temperature; it's 101.7. We currently don't have insurance and are trying to get some for her. With that temperature I knew I should bring her into the doctors, but we can't really afford that right now. I call my mom kinda freaking out (calmly). She tells me to call the doctors (not something I want to do in fear they'll tell me to bring her in). I took Abigail's temp again, now it's 100. I'm a little less worried, but I call the doctors anyway. My doctor isn't there so the receptionist asks a different nurse and tells me she'll call back. About 10 minutes later I do the temperature again, it's 100.5. (uh-oh is what I'm thinking) I call my boss "I may not come in today..." Doctors office calls me back "keep her hydrated... baby Tylenol for the fever..." I call mom to tell her the doctors orders, and she remembers "oh she could have a temperature because she's teething (which she is poor cutie). So I decide to go to work, but I have to find a babysitter while Reid is at class. Thank you Mandi for babysitting tonight!

I look back on all of this and I know I was overreacting with how worried I was. I have a feeling just knowing me there will be a whole lot more overreacting at the littlest things (even more so now that I'm a mom), so all of you who have to deal with me... I'm warning ya now! ;) It's a comin'!

Introducing the NETI POT

I am a man with allergies. I often get rhinosinusitis (whether acute or chronic i have no idea. What's the difference anyways?). Thats basically a sinus infection. I ALWAYS get them at least once in the spring and fall. This year, though, I have had FIVE since October. It is ridiculous. I've noticed that it comes on when I stay up late with Abigail (I'm not a night owl). It usually starts with a sore throat (which stays for a few days). I then feel it move into my sinuses where I have pressure and lots of draining (runny nose). Then it moves into my throat and I cough (post-nasal drip). It is a miserable time. BUT One of the greatest things has happened to me the last few weeks. THE NETI POT. Susie's mom recommended it to her while she was pregnant and had a stuffy nose. I thought it was one of them wives tails, especially seeing how it works. Susie's nose was too stuffy for it to work so I didn't think much of it until a couple weeks ago (like 8 months later). Christmas I had the sinus infection and hated it. I got home, getting over it and I could feel another one coming (because a sore throat was coming on). I said OH HECK NO! So I tried the Neti pot. Let me tell you how it works

You poor salt in the pot then add luke warm water (essentially saline). You stand up straight, put the extended part of the pot to one of your nostrils and lean your head the direction the pot is pointing. It feels REALLY weird at first. Water rushes into one nostril and out the other. When youre done, just blow your nose and you're done. You can do this as often as every two hours. I do it about once a day now.

OK so back to the story. So I tried this stuff (before my nose was too stuffy for anything to come out) and did it a few times that day. My sore throat went completely away. Later I felt another coming (gosh dangit leave me alone!!) So I tried it. It worked. I now am an advocate of the neti pot. I have since been free of any sign of rhinosinusitis

So, me being the scientist that I am, looked PUBMED's website (the site where ALL legit scholarly articles are published). I looked up Nasal irrigation and they said that studies have shown that it is truly effective in preventing sinus infections. So anyone like me that gets these stinkin things should get a neti pot.

DISCLAIMER- If you cannot get any air through a nostril because it is plugged and stuffy, you've waited too long and will have to wait till both nostrils can get some air out of it. GOOD LUCK!!!
